Local Manufacturer Thanks Rowing Community for its Start to 40 Years of Business & Growth

Nielsen-Kellerman to celebrate company milestone with a party on Boathouse Row to give thanks to rowing athletes, coaches, and the entire community.

Nielsen-Kellerman Company (NK), creators and manufacturers of NK Rowing & Sports performance products and Kestrel® Weather & Environmental Meters, announces 40 years of operation making rugged, waterproof electronics for a diverse array of customer markets. NK will celebrate the occasion on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 6PM-8PM at Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia.

Founded in 1978 by Richard Kellerman and Paul Nielsen, NK made a splash in the world of rowing with the development of the first-ever electronic device made specifically for the watersport: the CoxBox timer-amplifier. The company has grown from humble beginnings in the founder's basement, to a Philadelphia area facility with nearly 100 employees, ever-expanding product lines and international recognition as a go-to supplier of durable products for rowing, outdoor sports and other active applications. NK is dedicated to continue supporting its base; sponsoring the international rowing association, Federation Internationale des Societes d'Aviron (FISA), and the governing body of the United States Olympic rowing team, USRowing, in addition to donating to dozens of organizations and elite athletes through structured grants and corporate ambassadorships.

NK CEO Alix James on NK's longevity and dedication to serving the needs of customers, "Fewer than 7% of all US businesses have survived for 25 years or more, and fewer than 30% of family businesses make it to the second generation. As we begin our 40th year of operation, I am extremely proud to be the second generation leading a company that stands among this small group of successful survivors. Through multiple recessions and rapid changes in technology, our founders Richard Kellerman and Paul Nielsen put their money, energy and smarts into building a company that has lasted. And, we did it "our way" - inventing innovative products that defined new categories and building them from scratch in the United States. We are grateful to our customers who demand the best of us and reward us with their dollars and their loyalty. We plan to be here for another 40 years, and to keep raising the bar for ourselves in providing actionable knowledge to help our customers be faster, safer, more accurate and more successful in their endeavors."
