Overview
Speed Matters. There’s
no arguing with that when it comes to training. The SpeedCoach
XL is the revolutionary new training tool designed to make it easier
to run your workouts, evaluate your training data, and communicate with
your coach.
Operation is hassle-free with easy-to-navigate menus,
six front-mounted buttons, and a customizable screen. And installation’s a snap, too
- the XL is compatible with the SpeedCoach wiring and impeller you already
have on your boat. With an automatic backlit display, rechargeable batteries
and huge memory bank, the XL is the friendliest SpeedCoach we’ve ever
developed. Plus it only weighs 4 ounces more than the SpeedCoach
Gold or Red.
With four models to choose from, there’s an XL
for every rower, from the recreational sculler who just wants to log miles,
to elite crews training for the Olympics.

SpeedCoach XL3
Has all the SpeedCoach XL1 capabilities plus real-time crew performance data transmission send/receive.
- Every unit can be programmed to work as a transmitter in a boat,
or a receiver for a coach
- A minimum of two XL3 or XL4 units
are required to transmit and receive data.
- Additional XL3 and
XL4 units can be added to build a multi-boat network — up to
eight boat transmitter units and unlimited coach units can operate
on one secure network.
- The coach unit displays data from one boat at a
time, but can step quickly through data screens for each boat on the network.
- Boats and coaches can join or leave the group on the fly, but
all must have the secure code to exchange data.
- Multi-channel operation
and frequency-hopping prevent interference and keep data secure.
SpeedCoach XL4
Has all the SpeedCoach XL2 capabilities plus real-time crew performance data transmission send/receive.
- Every unit can be programmed to work as a transmitter in a boat,
or a receiver for a coach
- A minimum of two XL3 or XL4 units
are required to transmit and receive data

Calibration Routine
To calibrate the SpeedCoach, row over a measured distance on still water (on flowing water, row both up and down stream and average the results shown on the display). Then, use the following formula to obtain the new calibration value:
(Old Cal Value) (True Distance)/Displayed Distance= New Cal Value
For example, if the known rowed distance is 1 mile, but the display shows 0.92, the calibration value would be:
(1.00) (1.00)/0.92 = 1.086
