NK is Proud to have Olympians using their Products in the London 2012 Summer Games

Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

At NK, we’ve been manufacturing rowing products for more than 30 years. Some of our most recognizable products include, the Cox Box® Mini, a compact and waterproof audio amplifier, the SpeedCoach®, a training tool that gives rowers the accurate speed of their boat instantaneously, and the StrokeCoach® with Surge Rate, a portable device that works in any seat of any boat, without wiring

As a sponsor of Row2k.com’s Olympic coverage, this is not the first time NK products have been used during the Summer Games. In fact, at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, every medal winner had at some point used an NK SpeedCoach® model in their preparation and many even raced with a SpeedCoach®

This year, NK adds another product to the mix for Olympic athletes to use while competing for the gold, the SpeedCoach® GPS.  The newest product, only available for pre-order, will released to the public mid-August, but is in the hands of some of the competing Olympians. With its exceptionally crisp screen display, the advantage of this model is that all speed is captured wirelessly through the GPS, eliminating the need for an impeller, a part some believe to add the slightest bit of weight, making all the difference when racing.

As an American manufacturer, we are thrilled our products play a role in the Olympic Games Regatta, we are especially looking forward to the feedback we’ll receive with the SpeedCoach® GPS this year. To show the company’s support of the US Rowing team, NK sent each competing athlete a custom NK Olympic shirt. We even held an Olympic kick off meeting to get the employees pumped up about the Games and go over how our products are used during the Olympics. The team at NK is excited to watch the remainder of the Olympic Games and wishes all competing teams the best of luck.

Doggie Diaries- Oscar the anti-Grouch!

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

Oscar works in the Purchasing Department at NK with his mom, Doris. He has been coming in for just about a year now and he loves it! When he was a pup, he came in with his mom every day until he was well potty-trained and didn’t need someone to let him out for breaks as often.  Oscar comes and goes as he pleases now that he has his two human brothers home to keep him company during their summer break.

Oscar’s favorite toy is a rubber duck and believe or not, he’ll do anything for a baby carrot, most dogs might prefer a hamburger but Oscar opts for the healthier option. While he is at work, he likes to get to business and attend meetings with his mom. Sometimes, Doris might leave him in her office while she attends a meeting, and Oscar isn’t too thrilled, he whines a bit and then eventually settles down for his afternoon nap.

When Doris was asked to talk about a funny story about Oscar, she remembered the time when Oscar with just a puppy, under 10 lbs, running around trying to get the bigger dogs to play with him outside and he ran straight into the flag pole. Not surprisingly, that didn’t slow Oscar down for long. Like his fellow furry friends at NK, Oscar makes sure he identifies the most important people in the office first, those that give him treats. For Oscar, Gail from shipping is the one who spoils him. When he is in the office, she takes a few special trips to Doris’ office to see the furry fella.

When Oscar isn’t in the office he’s probably up to trouble at home but he sure does love his family. When visitors come to the house, he jumps up and down until he is noticed and receives a good pet. His favorite thing to do with his humans is go out on the family boat. He’s also quite the performer, the little guy’s best trick is when he dances in circles at breakfast and dinner time because he is looking forward to his next meal. All in all, Oscar is one fun-loving adorable pup that will win your heart if you get the chance to meet him!

Buying a House? Why You May Need a Kestrel

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Summer is in full swing and potential buyers still have the upper hand when it comes to purchasing a new home in the U.S. With so many things to consider when finding the right house, it is important to take precautionary measures to eliminate possible problems.  Even though a home inspection is not a requirement by law in every state, many buyers find that taking this preventative step is critical in the home-buying process.

Many home inspections consist of evaluating the condition of the heating and cooling systems as well as checking the structure of the property.  Home inspectors have the advantage of using the Kestrel 4200 to monitor the consistency of the air flow and temperature in each room of the home.  The home inspector professional can do this quickly by keying in the size of the duct on the Kestrel meter and holding it into the airflow as the readings are displayed on the screen.  The findings then can be saved immediately using the customizable data-logging feature.

After the inspection is complete, the inspector can refer back to the meter and revisit the information to create his or her report. This is reassuring to both the home buyer and inspector because they can be confident that the collected data is accurate.  With heating and air conditioning being one of the most important components of the home, an inspection performed with the Kestrel meter will ease the buyer’s mind.

Dogs on Duty

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

NK hosted the Pennsylvania Dog Wardens for a Kestrel educational class on Friday, June 29th. The dog wardens, mostly centered around the Lancaster and Harrisburg areas, use Kestrel Weather Meters in commercial inspections of PA kennels. As part of the Department of Agriculture, the wardens are responsible for ensuring the welfare of breeding dogs and puppies in commercial breeding kennels and typically use NK’s Kestrel Weather Meters to collect data on kennel temperature, humidity and heat stress index.

In order to help familiarize them with NK and the breadth of Kestrel products available for their needs, the wardens participated in a tour of the NK facilities, where they were able to view the production and manufacturing of Kestrel products. Members of the NK team also demonstrated the capabilities of the Kestrel 3000, 3500 and the new Kestrel 4400 Heat Stress Tracker in order to ensure that the wardens can quickly and efficiently perform kennel spot checks and rely on the accuracy of their data in the court of law.

The visit was a great opportunity for the team to learn more about the dog wardens and their responsibilities. Using the Kestrel meters, the wardens are able to use the meters to measure wind speed and direction, air density, temperature, relative humidity and WBGT to do their jobs more effectively.

Do you work in a profession where you use the Kestrel meter quite a bit? Let us know!
