Most people dread a snowy blizzard like the one we’re experiencing right now. It means waking up extra early to shovel out your car, navigating icy roads, all kinds of delays, winter hat hair and getting splashed with disgusting black snow-slush after a salt truck rolls by as you juggle your laptop and morning joe. Ok, so the last one happens to be a personal experience from this morning rather than a common gripe. But I’m sure I’m not the only one!
We’re still covered in snow here and it seems to be sticking around for the weekend. Obviously, weather is our business and our passion. As a Kestrel Weather Girl, I love this stuff (aside from the black snow-slush stained pants)! This Snowicane means I get to have some fun. I grabbed my trusty Flip cam and of course my Kestrel to do some storm tracking. I’ve been trying out the new Kestrel with Bluetooth to monitor the hourly weather trends. Since it sends the data wirelessly right to my laptop, I don’t even need an interface. We got the Kestrel 4500, tripod and Vane Mount set up outside and my laptop in the office.
It dropped down to some pretty chilly temps last night- with wind chill it was in the teens! And the wind was whipping…which I was able to get on camera. I even climbed a pole to see how much the location change would affect the wind speed. There’s nothing I won’t do in the name of “Knowing My Conditions”. Check out my Kestrel Weather vid and be sure to check back for more next week!
